2017 ELECTIONS “No to Violence Yes to Peace”
The Liberia National Police is expected to play a central role in the 2017 elections as Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson SIrleaf hands over to a successor. The LNP is also expected to ensure that the elections of member of the House of Representatives is conducted in an environment free of violence and violation of laws.
The Police is Committed to Violent Free Elections
The Election process consists of three (3) specific phases; Pre-Election phase which includes voters’ registration, campaign period; Phase 2: elections day and run-off elections; and Phase 3: post election period after the results are announced and the winners sworn into office.
The LNP is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and has committed officers to work with political parties and National Elections Commission (NEC). The LNP Chairs the National Elections Security Task Force (NESTF) that comprise the following other organizations:
- Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency
- Bureau of Corrections & Rehabilitation
- Armed Forces of Liberia
- Liberia National Fire Service
- Liberia Immigration Service
There are NESTF is going to work with NEC to provide security to more than 2000 precincts from 0800 – 1600 hrs on elections day. Officers are going to be ever present from pre-elections – elections day and post elections. Protection of elections materials is also required of the NESFT.
The proliferation of drugs and short single barrel guns, porous borders, disturbance of the peace, riots and other violent crimes that may draws serious national security concerns especially following the drawdown of UNMIL. It is against this background that this Operation Plan has been prepared, which will last for one hundred and fifty (150) days beginning August 1, 2017 to January 15, 2018.

This plan will accommodate the execution in the case of a Run-Off in these elections
