IG Coleman Endorses Secretariat on Gender
The Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory O. W. Coleman has endorsed a secretariat to coordinate Gender issues in the security sector. The secretariat includes representations from the UN Women, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Women Legislative Caucus, and the Liberia National Police.
The One-day acquaintance meeting with the UN Women delegation and the Women Legislative Caucus was held at the LNP Headquarters.
During a well attended meeting on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Madam Lambtey, a representation of UN Women, congratulated the newly appointed IGP and promised to give her support towards the improvement of Gender issues in the Country, which includes the awareness on the drug law, Gender equality and budgetary appropriation, Streets selling by children, prostitution and a safe home for children among others.
For his part, the Inspector General of Police thanked the UN representatives for the meeting and committed to working with the UN Women in promoting Gender issues.
Also in attendance was the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Gbemie Horace-Kollie who said Gender issues and the welfare of children have been a major challenge in our society and her Ministry is willing and ready to work with UN Women in collaboration with the Liberia National Police.
Again, one of the members of the committee on Gender at the House of Representative, Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah expressed her support for the LNP in developing Gender issues in the Republic for women participation at all levels within the Liberia National Police. She pledged her support to assist the Police in its efforts to raise the necessary budget to support gender issues.
