LNP Restores Calm To Cuttington University
The Liberia National Police in a joint effort with the Ministers of Justice and Education have restore calm on the Cuttington University Suakoko Campus bringing to an end weeks of holdup that previously brought chaos.
Two days ago, the President of the Republic of Liberia H.E. George Manneh Weah mandated both Ministers to intervene in the problem that led to the faculty putting down their chalks following the students’ peaceful demonstration.
The faculty and students have agreed to resume classes on May 31, 2018 after the Ministers of Justice and Education along with Bishop Jonathan B. B. Hart, Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees of Cuttington University concluded a dialogue between the faculty and the Board.
The protesting students represented by the President of the Cuttington University Students Union (CUSU), Clint Lawyah grieved over the under quality of services and facilities being provided regardless of their high tuitions. “These armchairs are meant for kindergarten and not for a University like Cuttington, even our daily meal is not sufficient” said Mr. Lawyah.
In a brief statement, the Chairman Cuttington University Faculty Association (CUFA) Mr. J. Lepolu Torlon expressed his pride to the Students as they conducted themselves during the agitation and asked his colleagues to immediately return to Classes. “You demonstrated to us that what we taught you over the years is not in vain” said Mr. Torlon.
Speaking through the mediation process, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cuttington University, Bishop Jonathan B. B. Hart, indefinitely suspended Dr. Herman B. Browne with immediate effect.
Also, the Minister of Justice promised to increase the light and the amount of hours and other facilities for the students to speed up with their studies as they expect to begin their final Exams. “We have heard your cry so we came and will increase the lights and the amount of hours” said the Minister.
Meanwhile, Dr. James M. Tamba has been appointed as acting President while Dr. Herman Browne is requested to make himself available for investigations.
