US Social Media Charity Donates to LNP
Mr. Peter Gbelia, left pose with the donated items
A charity under the banner, Empowerment Society International (ESI) has donated assorted items to the Liberia National Police.
Making the donation today, Monday, May 21, 2018, the Chief Executive Officer of the group, Peter Gbelia said his group’s decision to donate the items stemmed from the good job the LNP continues to do in the face of meager resources in ensuring the protection of Liberians especially after UNMIL’s transition.
Mr. Gbelia said the donation was also his group’s way of appreciating the LNP headed by Col. Patrick Sudue who in recent weeks have made tremendous efforts in combating crimes across the country. He added that given the tense environment in which Police officers are operating, it behooves every Liberian in and out of the country to see reason to buttress and appreciate the work of the Police.
The ESI’s CEO decried the low salary paid to Police Officers who are working tirelessly in serving and protecting lives and properties. He noted that given such sacrificial services provided the state and its citizens; Liberians need to motivate the Police in doing more.
Mr. Gbelia disclosed that the items donated was made possible through a social media institution (Facebook) set up in the US by Liberians including himself as a way of giving back to deserving individuals and institutions.
He named the items donated as 10 clean cook charcoal stoves and 5 solar lights valued at Five Hundred, twenty five United States Dollars (US$525).
Receiving the items, the Inspector General of Police, Col. Patrick T. Sudue thanked the group for their farsightedness in donating such items.
Col. Sudue in a smiling mood said the group’s donation came as a surprise to his institution. He commended them for their donation and added that said donation has made his institution to realize the level of quality work it is doing in protecting lives and properties.
He called on all well-meaning Liberians to see reason to emulate the good example of such social media group based in the United States of America. He lauded the group’s efforts in thinking of enhancing the work of the LNP instead of writing negatives about the institution.
